GOVERNMENT of India declared May 11 as the Technology Day, which began with major achievements in 1998 -Pokhran test, the first flight of indigenously built pilot aircraft and launching of Agni missile. It marks the contributions of the scientists and engineers to the development cff technology and nation building. Scientists like Dr.Anil Kakodkar were present on the occasion. Our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru believed that India could only liberate herself from the clutches of poverty, bigotry, superstition and ignorance by the extensive and humane application of Science & Technology and spread of Indianisation. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh gave a clarion call that the period 2010 to 2020 is the 'Decade of Innovation' to instill a spirit of innovation in young minds and innovators must be challenged to find solutions in a timeframe. Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) innovation strategy emphasised that countries need to harness innovation and entrepre-neurship to boost growth and employment This is a key to a sustainable rise in living standards.
