Barclaycard and Parkeon predict the era of wave & pay payment is almost a reality. Following the introduction of contactless cards by VISA and MasterCard, it is expected that all major cards issuers will incorporate wave & pay technology over the next few years. The innovation is currently being promoted by Barclaycard, which provides the function on all of its new and replacement cards and already has 11 million such cards in circulation. The UK Cards Association estimates that 1-in-6 card holders will have a contactless-enabled card by the end of 2010.
