Life as a high court enforcement officer throws up its own specific set of challenges. AS A self-employed High Court enforcement officer, John Groves sees all walks of life. He says the job is not dissimilar to his previous incarnation as the director of a bank dealing with individuals, businesses and professionals. Now he tours the Midlands collecting debts ranging from ￡600 to ￡150,000. Groves works mainly for Shergroup's debt-collecting division Sherforce. It's interesting work, he says, though the job is not without its stresses. In recent years, Groves admits the image of the profession has suffered due to a small number of unscrupulous bailiffs attracting high-profile attention. "There are some rogue debt collectors out there who unfortunately spoil it for the majority," he says.
