London borough pledges to release full parking accounts each year - Camden details use of parking surplus

The London Borough of Camden has published its first annual report on parking, including details of how all parking revenue is spent. Camden has pledged to publish a parking and enforcement report every year. In 2006/07 the council made a surplus of ￡19.29m from parking. Of this ￡7.37m was spent on highway and traffic improvement and highways maintenance while ￡7.19m went to the Freedom Pass scheme, which allows older and disabled Londoners to travel free on public transport in the capital. Another ￡2.62m funded the Home to School transport scheme, which provides dedicated transport for children with special needs who cannot use public transport.
