The goal of this study was to quantify the impact of various types of wood decay in white spruce and balsam fir on the production of thermomechanicai pulp. The results indicated that the most significant impact of decay in balsam fir was a large decrease in brightness. For white spruce, the change in brightness was comparable to that observed in balsam fir, but the pulp and paper properties were also affected greatly.
