摘要

Plants evolved their own-defense mechanisms during their long association with pests and pathogens. Simultaneously, the pests and pathogens also developed mechanisms to compromise plant resistance mechanisms. Natural pest resistance mechanisms occurring in higher plants can be classified into preformed resistance mechanisms and inducible resistance mechanisms. Natural resistance merits because of cost-efficient once cultivars are developed, genetic permanency, quite high efficacy and present little to no risk to people or the environment over the use of chemicals or other management practices. The major downside is the breaking down of resistance by pest population by selection pressure.
