During the past few years, the introduction of DNA-mediated gene transfer into parasite research has permitted subtle studies on fundamental aspects of parasite biology. In this paper, Egbert Tannich describes the recent break-through of successful Entamoeba histolytica transfection, and the subsequent developments in this field.
