Sea water contains about 3.5% total solids ( chiefly the chlorides of sodium, magnesium, and calcium) and the element in the form of bromide ions in concentration of 65 to 70 ppm. Preheat brine to 90°C in a heat exchanger and pass through chlorinator tower. After partial chlorination, flow the brine into a steaming out tower, where inject steam at the bottom and introduce remaining chlorine. Condense the halogen containing vapour and separate by gravity. Re- turn the top water halogen layer to the tower. Separatt crude halogen bottom layer and purify the distillation.
