Colgate-Palmolive reports solid first quarter results

HELPED by higher prices and cost-cutting, Colgate-Palmolive has reported a solid increase in net profit for the first quarter but sales revenue was down on last year. Net income rose 8.9 percent on the previous year while sales revenue decreased 5.7 percent to $3.5bn. Much of the decline in sales was attributable to exchange rate fluctuations and divestments. On an organic basis, sales revenue actually increased 8 percent.
