Review on application and process development for membrane distillation technique

This paper is a status review of membrane distillation (MD) as it is understood from the published literature and from our preliminary analysis. The review covers critical literature survey on the applications development in different areas like Nuclear industry. Fruit juice industry. Dairy industry. Pharmaceutical industry, Waste water treatment. Desalination of water, Recovering volatile chemicals. Major attentions are focused on the process development done by research on different configuration of Membrane Distillation (MD) includes modeling of process, heat and mass transfer phenomenon, fouling phenomenon and effect of operating parameters. Attention also paid to the integrated Membrane Distillation (MD) processes with traditional process for product quality improvement or process cost eduction. Overview and future prospects for Membrane Distillation (MD) also have been discussed in this paper.
