Deadly fisheries, fish feed, sea weed, and don't call them farms

The toll: From 2000 through 2009, there were 133 fishermen who died while working in Alaska waters, averaging 13 deaths per year. Half of the fatalities were caused by drowning after abandoning ship because of vessel disasters. Falls overboard accounted for 31 percent of all fatalities in Alaska's fisheries during that decade. Contributing factors were working alone on deck at 61 percent, using alcohol at 24 percent, and poor weather conditions at 15 percent. None of the victims was wearing a PFD.
