Halibut cuts on horizon: It's been a rough few years for halibut fishing along the Bering Sea, and it could get rougher.The International Pacific Halibut Commission was poised to make some major cuts to the quota in Area 4CDE - around the Pribilof Islands and northeast Bering.But Alaska's six representatives on the North Pacific Fishery Management Council lobbied for federal intervention. They wrote to the head of the National Marine Fisheries Service in December, asking for an emergency limit on halibut by catch in the Bering Sea trawl fleet.
