When Greg Williams is bouncing around off the West Coast of Vancouver Island in his open Dungeness crabber, he needs a solid, water-resistant chart plotter. That is why he opted for the low-cost Standard Horizon CP150 he got for Cdn 399 dollar from the Nanaimo Marine Centre in Nanaimo, B.C. With a 285 dollar chart card, Williams was in the GPS chartplotter world. "For what I am doing it is great. It shows me where my buoys are when it is wavy or choppy; it can bring me to where my crab float is," hesays. "It's an 18-foot crab boat, that is why the little unit fits in quite nicely. When you're in a little boat like that, a lap top is a little too finicky." Williams finds his plotter "fairly easy to use with just a toggle or a button, and they are waterproof too."
