Sea lions: The argument about whether salmon-gorging California sea lions can be killed on the lower Columbia River was bound to the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon as of the end of March. After a March 15 NOAA Fisheries Service decision authorized the killing of up to 92 of the sea lions each year for up to five years, a lawsuit was filed by the Humane Society of the United States and the Wild Fish Conservancy alleging that the program violates the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
