Legislature faces choice on future coastal zone program

Coastal community leaders in Alaska anxious to re-establish the state's coastal zone management program (CZMP) appear to have boxed the state Legislature into a corner when they submitted 34,500 signatures on an initiative petition to place the issueon this year's primary or general election ballot.The petition drive was organized by the ad hoc "Sea Party," led by Juneau Mayor Bruce Botelho, Kodiak Island Borough Mayor Jerome Selby, and Kenai Peninsula Borough Assemblyman Mako Haggerty.
