Expect a lot more quality grading on Bristol Bay this year

Honor roll: The report card project that grades salmon quality will be back on Bristol Bay this summer. For four years the project has tracked groups of salmon fishermen who are using more careful handling techniques. As their quality grades have improved, so have their prices. The surge in No. 1s brought an average price increase of 18 cents a pound in 2010. Project director Mark Buckley, of Digital Observer Inc., said that this summer, seasoned salmon graders will be deployed, armed with audio recorders to check the fish.
