Wild, loud, and unrestrained, the ancient castle town of Himeji in western Japan celebrates with one of the few remaining "deadly festivals" in Japan. While most of Japan's old traditional festivals have become safer over time, Himeji's Fighting Festival has not and still retains its risky edge, although few participants have been injured in recent years. No new rules nor moderation is to be found among participants nor audience. The energy and excitement are everywhere. This is a Festival. The men of Himeji are again to do "battle."
