Alaska soon will receive some needed upgrades in its fishing ports and harbors. Alaska has the longest coastline of any state in the country and is the country's greatest maritime state. Most Alaskan communities require harbors to reach resources like fish and to provide access to marine transportation. The state has developed an extensive public harbor system and had contracted with local governments to manage them. But there hasn't always been enough money to maintain these improvements.
