Alaska pink salmon to go as international food aid

Alaska officials were hopeful a minor government purchase of canned pink salmon might give Alaska fish a foothold in the enormous international food-aid arena. The officials in June announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture had "committed" topurchase up to 1,400 tons of canned pinks to feed poor people in Jamaica, Guatemala, and Cambodia. A USDA official was less definite about the purchase, though he indicated the chances were good.
