摘要

August was one of the best salmon fishing months John Koeppen has ever had. That's saying a lot, as he's based in California where this season was notoriously poor. But Koeppen had some help. He credits his use of fish finder technology with allowinghim to gain a basic advantage - knowing where the salmon are."Fish finders, or sonar, become the delineating component in determining what's actually in the water," said Koeppen, who works out of Half Moon Bay on his 40-foot boat, the F/V Lulu.Koeppen doesn't use fish finder gear to locate target fish. Rather, he uses it to find the bait fish they feed on. Salmon prey like anchovy and krill have specific schooling habits and definite visual signatures.
