Huge Togiak herring haul: The state's biggest sac roe herring fishery is located near the remote Bristol Bay village of Togiak. And, boy, did the fishery finish big this season. With the action just about to wrap up as Pacific Fishing went to press, the purse seine and gillnet fleets had a combined catch of nearly 28,200 tons, close to the preseason quota of 30,056 tons. Togiak hasn't seen many catches this large. The 1994 harvest was 30,315 tons. The price picture remained unclear. The estimated grounds price in 2012 was $125 a ton, and fishermen certainly were hoping for better this year.
