In Canada, Yukon First Nations allowed unrestricted Chinook fishing

While commercial, sports fishing, and First Nation fisheries in Canada's Yukon River were prepared for another year of weak Chinook returns, late numbers indicated pre-season estimates might have been too gloomy. Earlier counts from the lower Yukon River in Alaska indicate stock levels were low. This was grim news for Canada's commercial Chinook fishery and First Nations subsistence fishers. They only waited to see what shows up at the border. Pre-season estimates had the run of Canadian-origin YukonRiver Chinook at 61,000 to 72,000. With a total escapement target of at least 45,000 of that amount, the lower estimate would have left only 16,000 to 27,000 Canadian-origin Chinook for both the U.S. and Canada to harvest. Of this total allowable catch, Canadians could harvest about 4,000 to 6,000. These numbers were similar to 2008's Chinook run.
