Editorial: Sustainability vs. the Downturn--Can Green Strategies Survive a Recession?

In the wake of Wall Streets collapse and corporate Americas layoffs, budget cuts, and bankruptcy filings, it stands to reason that sustainability initiatives, seen during the best of times as "nice to have" rather than mission-critical, will be cut, too. What we are seeing instead is that companies are as committed as ever to sustainability. Sustainability is no longer just a cost of doing business--in the long term, it's the most cost-effective way to do business, and it will mean the difference between success and failure during the recession and beyond.
