A brilliant new blue pigment, discovered serendipitously by Oregon State University chemists in 2009, has now reached the marketplace where it will be used in a wide range of coatings and plastics. The pigment's discovery made strides toward satisfying a desire that began thousands of years ago to develop a near-perfect blue pigment. The challenge captured the imagination of ancient Egyptians, the Han dynasty in China, Mayan cultures and others.
