In 1989, when Jake Clark co-founded Armstrong-Clark Company of Sonora, California, with Jim Armstrong, Clark sought to develop an oil-based wood stain that wouldn't dry out and was easy to apply and maintain. He succeeded, and the company now offers four key product lines: transparent colors, semitransparent colors, hardwood transparent colors and semisolid colors. Since those early years, Clark has seen a lot of change in the paint industry, including internal changes at the company and consolidation in the marketplace.
