摘要

NUCLEAR fission in physics and nuclear chemistry is either a nuclear reaction or a radioactive decay process in which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts'1'. In the process, free neutrons and photons are produced alongwith very large amount of energy. It was discovered in 1938 by Use Meitner, Otto Hahn, Fritz Strassmann and Otto Robert Frisch. It is a highly exothermic reaction releasing very large amount of energy both as electromagnetic radiation and kinetic energy. The resulting fragments are not the same as the orginal atom. It usually is a process deliberately man-made nuclear reaction induced by a neutron.
