摘要

Cao et al. [1] report that occlusal interference by crown implants leads to chronic craniofacial muscle pain in rats. They further claim that this model may be useful in understanding a causative factor in chronic masticatory muscle and TMJD pain in humans. Although the study was appropriately designed, two critical problems were apparent. The authors did not provide an accurate review of recent literature regarding occlusal interference and TMJD pain. Also, there were significant concerns regarding methodology that question the validity of the study's claim that this was a valid model for chronic masticatory muscle and TMJD pain.
