BioTek Instruments was founded in 1968 to provide test equipment solutions to the hospital safety and quality assurance markets.Looking to expand into the growing life sciences market,BioTek entered the micro-plate instrument arena and introduced its first microplate reader in 1981.In 2002,the company sold its Biomedical Division,then the largest single producer of hospital safety and quality assurance instrumentation in the world.BioTek Instruments is now 100% focused on microplate instrumentation,automation and software.Briar Alpert,son of the company's founder Norman Alpert,has been president of the company since 2000.He came into the business with a degree in mechanical engineering as well as a Master of Business Administration degree,both obtained from the University of Vermont.Dr.Michael Beubold posed questions on trends and developments in the microplate instrumentation market.
