Marine Research in Norway: Watching Evolution at the Sars Centre in Bergen

Even a brief look at a map of northern Europe reveals the exceptional significance of the marine habitat for Norway: the winding coastline of this long-stretched country adds up to about 25,000 kilometres. Somewhat naturally the country's expertise in aquacultural research together with its peculiar geography and the immense diversity of marine life led the Research Council of Norway (RCN) in the 1990s to envision the establishment of a research centre dedicated to basic research on marine organisms using molecular approaches.
