The Use of PAT in Biomanufacturing

The potential of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) in biomanufacturing is far from realised due to the incipient use of powerful in-process monitoring techniques, inadequate use of available process information and lack of a process/ plant wide perspective in most proposed PAT strategies. Here we discuss how at-line and on-line monitoring tools, used on different process steps of bioprocesses can help to better understand, set and operate the industrial production of complex biomolecules and speed up their process development.
