AGRITECH Ltd, believes that if the industry does this through sincere and concerted efforts it can contribute significantly boosting agricultural yields. "Agriculture can propel India to double digit growth, if Indian productivity levels rise to global average. Mr. Anil Jain, President, Crop Life India, an industry lobby group, points to the strong and positive correlation between pesticide use and crop yield. "The three states with the highest agrochemical usage have the highest yields", he says, what is needed according to him, is an integrated plant health management plan that incorporates high yielding seeds, biological & chemical pest management supported by heavy investment in farmer extension services. Mr. T.P. Rajendran, Assistant Director-General (Plant Protection), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), urges the industry, to turn its attention to remote, rain-fed areas to take them to a higher trajectory of agricultural growth.
