Dear Readers: It appears our good friends in the European Union are at it again. In the concluding address at the American Coalition for Ethanol's annual meeting in Des Moines, IA, on Aug. 28, Doug Newman, international trade analyst for the U.S. International Trade Commission, said that U.S. exports of ethanol decreased in the first six months of 2013 compared to the same period a year earlier, primarily because of the imposition of a punitive tariff by the European Union on U.S. ethanol. Because of the trade dispute, the U.S. ethanol export market to the EU "has pretty much dried up," Newman concluded.
