Dr. Leopoldo et al. pointed out a very important issue concerning evolutional and etiological aspects of chronic pancreatitis. We would be happy to share our data on tobacco smoking in Japanese patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP) estimated by the nationwide survey [1]. Because our presenting data lack details about the smoking history of each patient, we did not describe the data in the previous article. However, we reconsidered that the data were significantly important to be published despite the limitations. The smoking status was available in 898 patients (male 731 and female 167, average age 58.3 +- 14.0) from the database of the 6th nationwide survey. The status was divided into two categories, an ever smoker and a never smoker.
