Beginnings of the foundry specialization at the Brno University of Technology go back to 1925 when the first attempt to form the study specialization of mechanical engineering was made. Thus the foundry specialization has begun one of the oldest subjects taught at the Brno University of Technology. Teaching of the foundry specialization at the Brno University of Technology is closely connected with the name of prof. Frantisek Pisek, an excellent practitioner, educationalist, and organizer of specialized foundry activities of Czechoslovak and world importance. The Foundry Department has been always developed in specialized and organizational relation to the subject of material science. An independent Foundry Department at the civil Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Brno University of Technology was founded after a number of organizational changes in 1958. In 1992 the foundry specialization became one of specializations of the Institute of Material Engineering and from 2004 it is a part of the Institute of Engineering Technology. In the past 50 years of the independent study specialization a number of excellent foundry specialists of high reputation, and namely in world level too, was engaged at the Department.
