The paper deals with application of computer simulation compared with experiment in die castings. (Simulated) microporosity occurence was compared with the possibility of defects detection (visual, X-ray, CT). The results correspond well. In the second part the problems of prediction of mechanical properties on the basis of experiment and simulation are solved. Measurement of velocity of a longitudinal ultrasonic wave in cast iron enables the determination of R_m =f(v_L) in particular castings. It is important to work with patterns found in particular terms of the given foundry.
