Simple One-Pot Conversion of Aldehydes andKetones into Enals

The hydroboration of ethoxyacety-lene with borane—dimethyl sulfide complex andsubsequent transmetalation with diethylzinc pro-vides after reaction with aldehydes or ketones andacidic workup the corresponding C2-homologat-ed a,(3-unsaturated aldehydes in high yields. Alter-natively, the one-pot workup using either aniliniumhydrochloride, ethane-1 ,2-dithiol or acetic anhy-dride gives the unsaturated imine, dithiolane orgem-diacetate, respectively.
