Inter-cellular Signaling Mediates Myelin Protein Synthesis

Myelination of neuronal axons by oligodendrocytes represents an impressive example of complex interactions between two different cell types in the central nervous system. The molecular basis of these events is only poorly understood. Here, a neuron-induced signaling pathway is described which regulates localized synthesis of a major myelin protein in the oligodendrocyte.
