Dendritic Cells as Master Regulators of T cell Responses: Dendritic Cell Subsets and Antigen Targeting

Dendritic cells (DCs) are very important antigen presenting cells. They connect innate and acquired immunity and are absolutely required for the body's fight against invading pathogens. Recently, DCs have been discovered to also maintain peripheral T cell tolerance and therefore prevent severe autoimmune reactions. This re- view will focus on the diversity of DCs, their ability to direct T cell responses, and the development of a completely new type of vaccine.
