ONE of the problems of using bolting fixtures in experimental, developmental and process engineering is ensuring an even pressure across the surface of an object. Where an engineer or scientist wants to increase or decrease pressure uniformly across the surface of presses, platens or cylinder tops, for example, they are faced with simultaneously tightening many bolts to exactly the same tension. "Bolting fixtures may be a perfectly simple and straightforward way to lock down press dies and other machinery that does not require frequent adjustment," said mechanical engineer and pneumatics specialist, Chris Webb. "However; bolting fixtures lose their appeal when engineering personnel need to continually apply or release differing amounts of pressure evenly for developmental or process work.
