Hot metal costs are determined by raw material andenergy (electricity) prices, labor costs and depreciation. Low-cost hot metal can only be produced at low coke and high fuel injection rates. A high productivity also contributes to low-cost hot metal. This could be achieved with high oxygen enrichment. These operating conditions result in higher loadings to the blast furnace lining. These loadings include thermal, mechanical and chemical components.
