Non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) constitute a class of medications that have contributed significantly to the management of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. This article reviews the NNRTI class, with an emphasis on efavirenz (Sustiva), nevirapine (Viramune), etravirine (Intelence), and the newest agent, rilpivirine (Edu-rant), which has recently received FDA approval.
