Abiraterone acetate tablets (Zytiga, Centocor Ortho Biotech, Inc.) have been approved, in combination with pred-nisone, to treat men with late-stage, castration-resistant prostate cancer who have received chemotherapy with doc-etaxel (Taxotere, Sanofi-aventis). The drug decreases the production of testosterone, which may stimulate cancer cells to keep growing. Abiraterone was approved ahead of schedule.
