At 14:46 on March 11, 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake (magnitude: 9.0) occurred, unleashing seismic movement and tsunamis that caused immense damage. The Japanese Government has named this quake the East-Japan Great Earthquake Disaster (Great East Japan Earthquake), or the 2011 Off the Pacific Coast of Tohoku Earthquake (Japan Meteorological Agency).
