For the young Essar Group that was born with a vision to match the step of developing nation that was in the making, it was a giant leap to venture into the steel production sphere. The journey started in 1989 by setting up two DRI modules at Hazira in the state of Gujrat with capacity of 0.9 million tonnes (MT). Then, the company advanced to build a pellet plant in Visakhapatanam, and eventually a fully integrated steel plant in Hazira. Today with a production capacity 14 MTPA and footprint in India, Canada, USA, Indonesia and the Middle East and significant presence in the key markets of Asia, Europe, Africa and North America, Essar Steel is a world class flat steel producer to reckon with.
