摘要

In steelmaking process, the importance of desulfurization is undisputed. It is well known that the sulfur causes hot shortness in steel and is harmful to the mechanical properties of steel products such as strength, ductility and toughness, etc. Thus, it is imperative to remove the sulfur from molten steel. Desulphurisation of liquid steel is mainly carried out under reducing conditions where the activity of oxygen in both metal and slag is low. Important conditions for enhancement of the desulphurisation reaction is to have a slag that has high basicity, low oxygen potential in terms of FeO & MnO and high temperature.
