Joint development by salzgitter and SMS Siemag Salzgitter: Strip Casting Plant with Belt Casting Technology will be built

Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, Germany, the biggest steelmaking subsidiary of the Salzgitter Group, has awarded SMS Siemag the contract to erect a strip casting plant with Belt Casting Technology (BCT). With this plant a fundamentally different casting concept will be realized for the first time on an industrial scale, enabling the casting of the high-strength steel strip in the gage range from 8 to 15 mm. The plant is scheduled to be ready for commissioning in 2012.
