GDP and the Economy: Third Estimates for the First Quarter of 2012

REAL GROSS domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 1.9 percent in the first quarter of 2012, according to the third estimates of the national income and product accounts (NIPAs) (chart 1 and table 1). In the fourth quarter of 2011, real GDP increased 3.0 percent. The third estimate of real GDP growth was the same as the second estimate, primarily reflecting a downward revision to imports and an upward revision to nonresidential fixed investment that were offset by downward revisions to exports, to consumer spending, and to inventory investment (see page 3).
