GDP and the Economy: Third Estimates for the First Quarter of 2013

REAL GROSS domestic product (GDP) rose at an annual rate of 1.8 percent in the first quarter of 2013, according to the third estimates of the national income and product accounts (chart 1 and table 1). In the fourth quarter of 2012, real GDP rose 0.4 percent. The third estimate of real GDP growth was revised down 0.6 percentage point from the second estimate. The revision reflected downward revisions to consumer spending, to exports, and to nonresidential fixed investment that were partly offset by a downward revision to imports. (see table 2).
