Some seven years after its introduction,the UN's International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has ratified tis treaty on air pollution caused by shipping.With the signature of Samoa in May,the IMO's marine pollution treaty,specifically its provisions for the sulphur content of fuels-MAR-POL 73/78 Annex VI-finally won support from the required 15 member nationa lwith a combined ownership of more than 50 per cent of the world's commercial shipping.
