More alcohol is no treat for refiners

The National Petrochemical and Refiners Association(NPRA)has objected to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee's approval of an ethanol mandate which specifies that eight billion gal/y of the biofuel must be blended in the nation's fuel stocks as part of the clean fuels programme.The association would prefer its members to provide a bigger share of oxygenates manufactured from petroleum.The move would in turn curb the amount of petroleum refined and the amount of by-product sulphur produced.
